Recipe Swap: Collossal Caramel Apple Trifle

I'm kinda late in posting this..I've been grocery shopping all day, and trying to teach a friend all the tricks.

Anyway, we have a hayride going on tomorrow for all the kids 6th grade and under at my church and their famillies. We have a relatively large church (at least for this area) and we were asked to bring a dessert. This dessert just says Fall, and it feeds a lot of people. The only downfall..well there are two...It is not frugal, and it is very delicious, and not good for your waistline. Worth making, nonetheless.

I got it from a Taste of Home cookbook a few years ago, and made a few changes.

Collossal Caramel Apple Trifle

(1) boxed butter cake mix

(3) boxes instant vanilla pudding

(2) can apple pie filling

apple pie spice, or nutmeg/cinnamon

(6) cups milk for pudding

whipped cream topping

pecans if desired

caramel ice cream topping

Bake the cake in (2) 9 in cakes. Prepare pudding and add the spices to your liking. You will need a realtively big bowl, like a punch bowl. Put one 9in cake on the bottom (this may have to be cut to size to fit in the bottom). Using a toothpick, poke some holes into the cake all over the place and drizzle with caramel topping. If using pecans sprinkle some on top of the cake. Add one apple pie filling, a layer of pudding, and a layer of whipped cream. Add the other cake and repeat the layers until all ingredients are gone. There really isn't a specific order in which you have to put the layers in, I have probably never done it the same way twice! On the top though, I always drizzle it with some more caramel, and some nuts just to make it look nice.

Even though this makes a lot, when I make it and take it somewhere, my bowl is always empty!

Enjoy!
