Menu Plan Week of November 22nd-28th

**Don't forget to enter to win an EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale here**

It's Thanksgiving Week! We'll be traveling for the better part of the week, so our meals are simple, and hotel friendly. I specifically requested a microwave and a refrigerator in our room so we wouldn't be forced to eat out or rely on family to feed us the whole time. Another thing I looked for in booking our hotel, was a free, hot breakfast. These really come in handy! We can eat a big breakfast and a small lunch this way.

I got a lot of ideas from The Happy Housewife's Hotel Menu Plan. I'm also happy to know that we aren't the only ones who eat in hotel rooms in order to save money. :)

Sunday:
  • Breakfast:Toast with Apple Butter
  • Dinner: Mexican Dip/Nachos (Oh so healthy!) ($5)(10 servings=.50/ea)

Monday:

  • Breakfast: Oatmeal
  • Dinner: DH and the kids want Fried Squirrel w/Mashed potatoes. I, on the other hand, will find something else! (Wild game and free potatoes, lefotvers=free meal)

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

  • Breakfast: Loaded Breakfast Casserole
  • Dinner: Bierocks. ($2) Salad.(.50)($2.50)(8 servings=.31/ea)

Thursday:

  • Breakfast: Hotel
  • Dinner: Thanksgiving!

Friday:

Saturday:

  • Breakfast: Hotel
  • Dinner: Eat Dinner Out

Menu Plan Week of October 18th-24th

Last week was our last week of soccer until the spring season. Aaaahhhh. I've longed for some nights at home, in my pajamas!! Our weather has already cooled off immensely, and it is hard for me to realize that it is almost November. Christmas is going to sneak up on us.

We had another whirlwind of a week last week, and only the first half of last week's meals went as planned. Thursday we ate a meal from the freezer because I somehow last my hamburger. Friday night we had a church function that I forgot all about until the last minute. Then on Saturday, we ended up eating dinner at a friends.

    Sunday:

    • Breakfast:Bacon/Egg/Cheese Tator Tot Casserole.~Recipe to come later.
    • Dinner: Big lunch, so we snacked for dinner.

    Monday:

    • Breakfast: Oatmeal with Apple Butter.
    • Dinner: Spaghetti.($2.75) Green Beans.(from garden) Tri-Color Bread Braid.($1)($3.75)(8 servings=.47/ea)

    Thursday:

    • Breakfast: Oatmeal w/bananas
    • Dinner: BBQ Pork Steaks(under $1.50) Baked Beans (leftovers in freezer) Frozen Dinner Rolls (these have been in there for ages, I have no clue what they coset. $1??)($2.50)(5 servings=.25/ea)

    Friday: Pizza/Movie Night

    Saturday:

    • Breakfast: Breakfast Casserole
    • Dinner: Giggin'! Fish Fry on the river. :)

    Snacks:

    • Chocolate Chip Cookies
    • Apple Pie

Total Cost of Dinners: $16.25 Average Price Per Serving: .50/ea

The last 3 weeks have been lower than any other week that I can remember. This week, being the lowest by $1.90. One thing to note, is there is 6 full meals--2 of which have no cost. Tuesday's dinner I explained in last week's menu plan, and for Saturday's meal (gigging)--the fish are free, and the sides (potatoes, "whop biscuits", and whatever else) are usually provided by my Mom-In-Law. In the event I do provide some sides, the cost is still minimal.

Taking advantage of wild game and fish, as well as growing and producing your veggies, is a GREAT way to lower your grocery budget.

Menu Plan Week of October 4th-10th

I really can't wait for my days and weekends to slow down a bit. We are rarely home on the weekends due to soccer games, Bible Study every other Saturday night, church Sunday morning, and our Dynamic Marriage class early in the evening on Sundays. Because of this, I feel as if I am constantly playing catch up.

I used to always do my baking for the week on Sundays after church, but I just haven't had the time. Last week I decided that I had to have a baking day this week, no questions asked. I'm still hoping that I am able to get to it on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. My goal is to get bread and some snacks made up. I've volunteered to bring snacks for numerous different events a lot in the next few weeks, so I am hoping to get a lot of it done early this week and just freeze them.

Menu Plan Week of September 27th-October 3rd

After the eventful week we had last week, I can't wait for this week. It's quiet, with just a few things planned.

A few meals didn't go as planned last week, but for as busy as we were--we did GREAT! We didn't eat out once! I came down with a horrible headache that lasted many days and a wonky stomach bug on Wednesday. I didn't make the cabbage rolls, or the pumpkin pie from scratch, so those will be repeats this week.

I'm also still having a hard time with breakfasts. I'm hoping to start going to bed a little earlier, in hopes that I will have an easier time waking in the morning. That is my biggest hurdle with making hot breakfasts in the morning.

I did a light shopping trip at the end of last week, and I managed to score a bushel of apples for $10! I will be using most of them to make and can some applesauce, but I plan to incorporate some into our breakfasts and snacks.

    • Dinner: Chicken Salad for the adults, and leftovers for the children.(.75)

Home Management Binder: Menu Planning/Master Grocery List

What would be a Home Management Binder without a Menu Planning section? Check out this post for some Menu Planning tips and tricks if you are still new to the game.

This section is still a work in progress. My goal when it is finished is to have a complete Master Grocery List, and a Monthly Menu Plan to fall back on--in those busy, crazy times when I just do not have the time to come up with a plan.

This is my the cover page for this section. Feel free to Click Here and print yours.

Behind my cover page is extra notebook paper for me to write down meals, side dishes or desserts that I come across during the day, that I want to try. If I find them on the internet, I will either save them in my favorites or Stumble them so I can find them later. If I find it in a cookbook, I will go ahead and write down the cookbook and the page so I can easily find it again, when it makes "the plan."

After the notebook paper, I have the always-work-in-progress Master Grocery List. Just when I think I have it down, I think of something else, or decide to do something differently. My goal with this list is to incude everything that I buy on a regular basis, as well as price points that I consider to be a good stock up price. I've just recently re-done the one I was using, and I'm not so sure that this is exactly what I am looking for either. I found my current template off of our Excel Program, and have just went in and customized it to work for me.

I've also included a few extra Weekly Menu Plan sheets just in case I am able to fill it in before the week comes up. I'm currently using the free printable that MomAdvice offers, but Orgjunkie recently linked to a bunch of menu printables and I think I found a new one that I might like better.

Once the current plan is figured out, it gets transferred to my dry erase board that is displayed on my refrigerator. I've really come to love this thing--it is much better than the calendar system I used to use. Plus, it is pretty! I found it at Wal-Mart for $1, up by the cash registers. If you are unable to find one--I have a few extra. ;)

Nothing too complicated, which makes it easy for me to keep with it. I was hoping to have my Master Grocery List and Monthly Meal Plan completed to share, but I'm just not quite there. Yet. ;)

Do you have a Master Grocery List or Monthly Menu Plan?

If you have a Home Management Binder, I would love to see your Menu Planning/Grocery Section. Link up!

**If you're walking along getting your binder set up, next week I'll cover the Finance Section. For a complete schedule, check out the BlogFrog or Facebook Fan page in the blog sidebar.**

    Menu Plan: Week of Sept.13th-Sept.19th

Today marks the remembrance of a life changing moment in my family's life. Today, September 13th, marks the 6th anniversary of my father's very unexpected passing. While many good things have come from it, it feels no better today than it did 6 years ago. I consistently fight back tears, many of them joyful, because he was a humorous, loving man. However, my heart still aches that my children will never know him. But we are making sure that they know him.

In any event, today we (our church family) are celebrating the kick off of the Fall Season. If I had to pick a favorite season, it would be fall. It screams soups, comfort foods, beautiful colors and sweaters, which equals love in my book. ;)

I'm going to try a different menu plan format, and see how it works. I might end up going back to the old one.

    Sunday:

    • Breakfast: Bacon and Egg Sanwiches Cereal. Had to leave earlier than expected to get extra supplies for the fall kickoff.
    • Lunch: Fall Kickoff at church. Huge BBQ planned; bringing Caramel Apple Trifle for dessert.
    • Dinner: Snacks. After a big lunch like that, there is no reason for a full-on dinner!

    Monday:

    Tuesday:

    Wednesday:

    • Breakfast: Bacon/Egg Sandwiches.
    • Dinner: Chicken/Black Bean Quesadillas. ($3) Salad. (.50)($3.50)(8 servings=.44/ea)

    Thursday:

    • Breakfast: Steel Cut Oats w/bananas
    • Dinner: Chilli. ($2.00) HM French Bread. (.40)($2.40)(10 servings=.24/ea)

    Friday:

    • Breakfast: Smoothies.
    • Dinner: Pizza Night! This time we're going with Pizza Casserole. ($2.50) Salad. (.50) Dessert Pizza. ($1-ish)($4)(8 servings=.50)

    Saturday:

    • Breakfast: Cinnamon Rolls.
    • Lunch: Soccer Games--packed lunch.
    • Dinner: Leftovers. (No cost)

    Snacks for the week:

Total cost of dinners: $20.90 Average Price per serving= .50/ea

Thanks a ton to Lynn, Amy, and BlessedwithGrace for tweeting me your meal ideas a few weeks back. I've ended up with a really tasty week! :)

Menu Plan Week of August 30th-September 5th

It's September--which means that fall is near! I think I just may pull out all of my decorations this week. Not only is fall approaching, but my oldest's birthday is Friday. Eeekkk, he'll be 9. He had a couple of friends over this past weekend for a celebration of sorts. He really doesn't ask for much, which makes things a ton easier. This weekend we will have a small family celebration with our traditional cake and ice cream and the birthday boy's choice of meal. We're thinking of jetting back to the hometown for a weekend kayaking on the river. He loves kayaking! We'll just have to see about that though. Willie will be gone all week, attending a "school" through his workplace, and he may just want to be home after almost a full week gone.
I was busy entertaining boys all weekend, and attacking mountains of paper clutter, so I didn't have much time to plan my meals. Thankfully, Tiffany over at Eat At Home Cooks has put together a week full of meals, as well as one dessert item. Not only that, but she writes out the grocery list for you.
    Perfect!
So, this week, my dinner plans are courtesy of Eat At Home Cooks. Be sure to check her downloadable menu plans and grocery lists. Below I have included her meal ideas, as well as the price breakdown. You can find the recipes here.
    Breakfast:
    • Smoothies w/homemade yogurt.
    • Steel Cut Oats with fruit.
    • Oatmeal Pancakes.
    • Bacon/Egg Pockets.

    Dinners:

    • Sunday: Leftovers.

Menu Plan Week of August 23rd-30th

School is in full swing, and we have welcomed the routine. While I love the freeness of summer, a routine makes things so much easier! Hard to believe that I just planned the menu for the final week of August. Christmas is going to be here before we know it, and it'll be time for 2010! But, I'm not rushing..our weather has been amazing this summer, like an extra long fall. Amazing!

I'm still trying to get into the swing of hot and/or nourishing breakfasts early in the morning. The children catch the bus at 6:45 am, and I love it when they eat here. While school breakfasts are only .75¢ each, I like to know that they are nourished before they leave, as well as my husband. It is taking a bit of preparation and oomph in the morning, but so far so good.

    Breakfast:

    • Crockpot Steel Cut Oats w/fruit.
    • Smoothies.
    • Cereal.
    • Scrambled eggs and sausage.

    Dinners:

    Snacks:

In the last few months I have gotten really lax about tallying up my menu costs and posting my grocery trips. I've gotten multiple requests to bring these back and I really need the accountability, so I hope to back to doing that next week.

Also, this week for Finding Freedom Friday, we will be talking about healthy, after school snacks for your kids. Don't forget to come back and share your ideas!

Menu Plan Week of August 16-22

We survived our surprise mini-vacation this past weekend. My husband came home from work on Thursday evening and decided that we needed to do one last hoo-rah before the kids start school on Wednesday. Earlier in the summer, Nicholas said the only thing he wanted to do, was to see skyscrapers. So we headed to St. Louis! We took advantage of some free attractions (the zoo and the Science Center) and walked down by the arch. I booked our hotel across from the airport so that the kids would be able to watch the planes land and take off. It was a quick and packed trip, but we had a very good time. Now it is time to get back to normal, just in time for school to start.

I'm hoping that I can be better at breakfasts this year, versus last year. During school season, the children wake up at 6am and hurry to get ready before catching the bus at 6:50. There is hardly anytime for breakfast in there, but I really need to get better at this, instead of them eating breakfast at school--while it isn't very much, it sure adds up.

    Breakfast:

    Dinners:

    • Sunday: Sandwiches on the road while driving home.
    • Monday: Sloppy Joes. Baked Beans. Salad.
    • Tuesday. Chicken Fettucinne. Steamed Broccoli. HM Breadsticks.
    • Wednesday: Beef Burger Pockets. Carrots. Dessert: I'm stealing my SIL's idea and giving the kids their own "1st Day of School Cakes".
    • Thursday: Enchiladas w/HM Jalapeno Cheddar Tortillas. HM Spanish Rice. HM Refried Beans.
    • Friday: PIZZA NIGHT!
    • Saturday: Leftovers.

Menu Plan Week of July 19th-25th

It seems as it has been forever since I've menu planned, and I can't even begin to tell you how stoked I am to be back at it this week. Not only have I been lost when it comes to dinner, but with our weekly snacks, our bread, and my routine! Who knew one plan could be so incredibly important. I know these things, but I guess I just need to test it every once in awhile! :)

I can't even begin to tell you what has stopped me the last few weeks. Summer has been seriously crazy and it is flying by. Last week was one of the hardest weeks I've had in quite sometime and it left me so emotionally drained that on Wednesday all I did was lay on the couch. Nothing got done. Thank you so much to all of my Facebook and Twitter friends for your prayers, we continue to pray that an incident like that will not happen again and we are moving forward. Although the week was crazy, we had an incredible weekend all the while celebrating our 5th anniversary. My brother graciously offered to watch the children while we had an evening away. Originally our plan was to go to Saint Louis, but at the last minute we decided that we were wanting away from all the hustle and bustle. So we headed to a very small town in the middle of nowhere that is known for it's German heritage and wineries. We stayed at a bed and breakfast, walked the riverfront, toured a winery and walked all over the town. All the while barely encountering a soul. So peaceful, relaxing and rejuvenating!!

So, here I am. Hopefully back at my normal life. I really am looking forward to having my direction back in the day--and I am certain my family feels the same!

    Breakfast:

    Dinners:

    Snacks:

    • HM Brownies
    • Maple Oat Nut Sconces
    • Cookies (not sure what kind yet!)
