It is hard to believe that my garden is really starting to take shape. It thrills me to no end! I cannot wait, though, until my little seedlings that I have been babying are able to be planted outside.
So far this is what I've got planted. These are part of the heirloom seeds that I bought awhile back.
- Rev. Morrow Longkeeper Tomato Planted 48, and 37 have germinated!
- Golden Cal Wonder Peppers Planted 48, and 12 have germinated. Peppers take a lot longer to get started.
- Edible Chrysanthemum Out of 8, 6 have popped through. These literally only took 2 days!!
- Chinese 5 color Hot pepper We planted 4 in an indoor pot, but only 2 have germinated. These were the first things we planted. These are gorgeous/unique plants.
- Black Krim Tomato I have 8 of these coming up. Their germination was pretty fast as well. Although they are called a black tomato, they are purple in color, and won a blind taste test at the farm we got them from. Worth a try!
- Roma Tomato So far no babies yet. Just planted these on 3/2
- Amish Paste Tomato Also, no babies.
- Fish Pepper Nothing. These are a hot pepper that was used a lot in cooking fish, has very pretty foliage.
- Tomatillo To my surprise--I've got one popping through. It germinated in 2 days as well!
- Yellow Wonder Strawberry Nothing yet.
- Cilantro Nothing.
- Yellow Habenero Nothing.
- 3 varieties of lettuce (Black Seeded Simpson, Arugula, and Cimmaron) I planted these in the ground yesterday, so of course nothing here, either. I can't wait until I can go cut us a fresh salad! Store bought just doesn't compare.
I've been staying pretty busy watching taking care of my little seedlings. Our weather has went crazy again and we are going through another spring spell. I had my plants out in the greenhouse all day yesterday, and since the evening was warmish I left them out there. If the weatherman is accurate, I shouldn't have to bring them back inside until Sunday or Monday evening. Thankfully!! It is a pain to tote all of them from the house to the greenhouse. Although, I do have a really good 3 year old helper!

We haven't started of yet. I'm trying to figure out when to start them indoors.
I'm always in awe of people who can garden. I have such a black thumb that I can even kill artificial plants! Keep up the great work. I'm so impressed!
We need to get our booties in gear on this one. Hubby has been working very long hours and we are making planter boxes this year.

I have three green beans sprouting up, 3 days after planting! That was exciting! This is my first time to ever plant, and I was nervous because I didn't soak them like was recommended.
I've got 3 green beans sprouting 3 days after planting .. yea!! (This may be a multiple post .. I have been having trouble posting to your site for some reason).
I've been "garden crazy". I have some of my seeds going. I even made the newspaper pots (round) that Little House in the Suburbs made. They're fun. So far, the only thing sprouting (after only a week) is the cabbage seeds. I really wanted to plant purple cabbage and can't find any seeds! Also wanted to try some of that beautiful graffiti cauliflower (bright purple) but can't find those locally either. Its so exciting! We're getting bees in April, too.
Well, I have to admit that I have never planted a vegetable garden before, only a flower garden. Glad your "babies" are growing!
I know nothing about gardening, but you have again, inspired me. I am having DH pick up a few things to get us going. Thanks for the ideas. (And money saving tips...)
My hubby gets spring fever every February. We've already had to transplant some zucchini and yellow squash. Yes, my children love them and will eat them raw or cooked in various fashions. We also planted lots of cucumbers because they don't seem to grow and we love them. We think our tomoatoes will be volunteers so we havent planted those. Our carrots and beans will be planted outside when the weather warms up. We will plant peas in two areas (one shaded which will be planted a little later) to extend the harvest (hopefully). We are thinking of trying broccoli and cauliflower too. We will be purchasing our peppers.
Sighhhhhh. I want to garden too!!! But I can't. Nothing can go in the ground here until June :(

We just planted last weekend, and we've got lots of stuff coming up! I'm as excited as the kids! :)
Must admit I'm a little jealous. As much as I try I just can not get our garden to look nice.

We're doing a container garden on our deck this year to keep it away from the deer - and the rocks.
Yesterday my first little cucumber seedling poked up!
We also put out a few tomato plants and strawberries. Still waiting on peas and beans to show themselves.
Your garden sounds huge! I need to be your neighbor to help you with your overabundance this fall! lol!
I'm lousy at gardening, but thankful that DH can actually grow something. Because of fluctuating weather around here, we usually wait until the first week of May to put any plants out.
I am planning a garden this year, and I have started seeds for tomatoes and lettuce inside. I know most people don't start lettuce inside, but I want to put it in my flower beds instead of other annuals. I felt successful when my tomato plants finally showed up, it took almost 2 weeks.
Oh, and I have heard that many herbs take a long time to grow from seed, I should probably start them already. {I start mine in the cardboard egg cartons}
