A handful of my bows.
These are my favorite sites, but a quick google (or swagbucks) search will get you some results, as well.
- Hip Girl Clips is a forum based site, but it has a bunch of different ideas and instructions for making hair bows/clips. I've not frequented it too much, but the members seem very helpful and kind.
- GirlyThings Bows also has some great information on their site.
I browsed the HipGirl Forum the most, and looked at all their tips and information and basically went from there. I know that I am far from going professional, and I have no intention in doing so. My main goal here is to keep my daughter looking cute, all the while saving some money. Kait loves that she is a part of the process, most of the time, and that we are able to match the outfits we already own. Or, in last year's case, I couldn't find a cute Fall shirt--so I made one to match her hairbow.

Another thing that helps, is going to a store where they sell bows (Wal-Mart has some to look at) and just looking at the bows. A lot of them use the same technique, just using different ribbons, or adding more in. When you feel you have the idea behind them, just play with your ribbon a bit, lay out a bow and play around. Don't glue them until you are set on the design you want, and you've gotten comfortable with playing with the ribbon. I'm sure that many will disagree with me here, but they don't have to be perfect if they are just for your use. No one is going to look that close to their bow. Now, if you are making them to sell--that is a whole 'nother ball game.
I think I will just stick to making them for my own use..I've got a long way to go to be professional!

I'm going to try this. I accidentally bought 2 bows for $8 and almost lost my lunch. I thought I was getting way more than 2 bows, but there was nothing I could do but hold up my end of the transaction. This is much smarter!
I've made hairbows for the same reason. Unfortunately, my daughter hates to wear anything in her hair.
Tips I found are to stitch the ribbon fabric together. I don't glue. I also seal the ends of the ribbon with clear nail polish. That keeps them from fraying.
