Finding Freedom: Homework Assignment

Didn't know there was going to be homework, did you?!

It's nothing major..but it is a key detail to getting started.

I want you to get a notebook (I use a spiral, one subject notebook) and on the first page write down every single one of your bills/expenses. All of them. Including the ones that come just a few times a year. Do the best you can to gauge your expenses such as gas and groceries.

They do not have to be in any order, just as long as they are written down.

I wrote mine down with the lender/company down the left side, and over on the right I wrote down the payment. At the very bottom of your list, total it up.

Don't have a heart attack (I almost did with mine!). We're here to make that number smaller!

For now..that is all. See, told you it wasn't major. This will help us to establish the cash flow plan (a.k.a. budget).

On Monday, we will come back and see what it was like to have it all laid out.

I am so scared to do this, because even though we are living minimally we still have a lot of bills that we have to pay each month. I am going to do this assignment tomorrow because I have never done this before. This should be really interesting.

I am such a list maker, so this is going to be kind of fun for me too. I have tons of spiral notebooks at my house because I write down everything. Even my blog articles before I post them.

Oooo, this looks like fun :) Kinda... We've already done the whole "make a list, figure out your budget" thing, but I'm eager and excited to see what you have next!! I love seeing/reading other's ideas and techniques. You never know, I might learn something ;)

My husband pays the bills but I am the one that manages the grocery budget. I will have to ask him for his budget because I have no idea how much everything really figures out to.

BTW, I hope you're grading on a curve, lol!

Chanin-
There isn't anything wrong with it being in the computer. I think it is easier to have it on paper so that you can scribble notes to yourself and see your progresses a little easier. But, if you want to keep it all on the computer..that works, too! Later we will use the same notebook for other things, but you might still be able to do them with your computer.

Ok, I have mine on my computer too, but I'll get a notebook just in case.

you mean I can't live in ignorant bliss? LOL We are in the middle of putting this in our computer so we can track our bills and also what we spend in each category. We are not currently on an envelope system but I hope to move us there.
